Troubleshooting
Recovering your work
- Earlier versions of a file: the History tab shows Git commits, and on macOS Time Machine and document versions.
- Files closed with Don't Save: Settings ▸ Files ▸ Saving ▸ Recover Unsaved Drafts ▸ Open Folder. Each is kept for 30 days, named with the time it was closed.
- After a crash: Typora keeps a journal of unsaved changes, and restores them the next time you open the document.
- A document synced by Typora: see Recovery copies.
Something looks wrong
- After changing a theme: switch to the default in Settings ▸ View, and rename
user.cssin the Themes folder. - After installing an extension: turn it off in Settings ▸ Extensions and check its Log. Turn off all of them to rule them out.
- A file shows garbled characters: use File ▸ Reopen with Encoding.
- Blank or black window on Linux: start Typora with
--disable-gpu. - Windows won't start Typora: check the WebView2 Runtime.
Resetting Typora
Your settings, templates, snippets, themes and extensions are in ~/.config/Typora/ (%USERPROFILE%\.config\Typora on Windows). There is no reset button. To start over, quit Typora and move that folder or just settings.toml somewhere safe. A missing file starts from the defaults.
