Whitespace and Line Breaks
Paragraphs and line breaks
- Enter starts a new paragraph.
- Shift+Enter starts a new line in the same paragraph.
In the Markdown, a hard line break is two spaces at the end of a line, \ at the end of a line, or <br/>.
Settings
Settings ▸ Control ▸ Whitespace and Line Breaks, and Edit ▸ Whitespace and Line Breaks:
| Setting | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Show Line Break Marks | On | Shows a mark at each hard line break |
| Preserve Single Line Break | On | Keeps single line breaks when rendering |
| Preserve Sequential Blanks | On | Keeps repeated and leading spaces |
These settings affect the editor. Other Markdown tools, and exports, follow the usual rules: a single line break and repeated spaces collapse. Use a hard line break or when you need one to survive.
Indentation
Settings ▸ Control ▸ Indentation has Indent Size and Indent First Line of Paragraph.
Line endings
Settings ▸ Control ▸ Saving ▸ Default Line Ending keeps the file's own, or uses LF or CRLF. Edit ▸ Line Endings changes them for the current document.
