Language Packs

English and Chinese ship with Typora. Every other interface language is a language pack: an extension that contributes localizations, dictionaries, or both. Typora's own packs are in the store as typora.lang-<locale>.

json
"contributes": {
  "localizations": [
    { "locale": "de", "name": "Deutsch", "englishName": "German", "path": "translations/de.json" }
  ],
  "dictionaries": [
    { "language": "de", "aff": "dictionaries/de/index.aff", "dic": "dictionaries/de/index.dic" }
  ]
}

localizations

KeyTypeMeaning
localestringBCP 47 tag of the language: de, pt-BR.
namestringThe language's name in that language. Settings ▸ General ▸ Display Language shows it.
englishNamestringIts English name.
path.json fileThe translations.

The translations file maps each English string of Typora's interface to its translation:

json
{
  "File": "Datei",
  "Save As": "Speichern unter",
  "Exporting {0}…": "{0} wird exportiert…"
}
  • A string without a translation stays English.
  • {0}, {1} are placeholders; keep them.
  • A key without a trailing … also translates the same label with one (Save As → Save As…).
  • Typora picks the pack whose locale is closest to the chosen language: de-AT uses de, pt uses pt-BR when there is no pt.

dictionaries

Hunspell dictionaries (.aff and .dic), used for spellchecking a language the system spellchecker lacks — and for every language on systems without a spellchecker, such as Linux.

KeyTypeMeaning
languagestringBCP 47 tag: de, de-CH.
aff, dicfileThe Hunspell files. Up to 32 MB each.

The language appears in Settings ▸ Writing ▸ Spelling ▸ Default Spellchecker Language when the system has no dictionary for it. Words the user learns are kept with the pack.

Notes

  • A language pack is data only: no main, no background, no permissions.
  • Choosing a language in Settings (or a system language) whose pack is missing offers to download it from the store.
  • Include each dictionary's license next to it.
